Privacy Policy

Overview
Penance is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your data belongs to you and stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to external servers.
Data Storage
All data created within Penance — including your profile information, indulgence records, penances, and reflections — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device.
- No cloud sync
- No user accounts
- No server-side storage
- No backups to our servers
HealthKit Integration
Penance can optionally integrate with Apple HealthKit to read the following data types:
- Dietary energy consumed (food logs)
- Active energy burned (activity data)
- Body mass (weight)
- Height
- Biological sex
- Date of birth
This data is used solely to calculate your daily calorie budget and detect when intake exceeds your threshold. HealthKit data is processed locally and is never transmitted off your device. You can revoke HealthKit access at any time through iOS Settings.
Notifications
Penance uses local notifications to remind you about items on your tab and pending penances. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on-device. No notification data is sent to external servers.
Analytics and Tracking
Penance does not include any analytics, tracking, or telemetry. We do not use:
- Third-party analytics services
- Crash reporting services
- Usage tracking
- Advertising identifiers
Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all Penance data at any time by uninstalling the app. There is no data stored elsewhere that would need to be deleted.
Children's Privacy
Penance is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
